Western Canadian Companies seem gun shy regarding international trade! WHY?

I am trying to determine all of the objections one gets from Western Canadian Companies when I approach them regarding our International Trade Consulting services.
I would like to set up a poll on various websites just to find out what is really bothering them.

I understand about the fear of the unknown, but so did our ancestors when they came across the pond the first time, and I am here 200 years later.

I understand about the financial losses that MAY happen. But with all the loan guarantees out there this is minimized. Plus, you tell me where you do not make money without risk. The bigger the risk, the bigger the return!

I understand about the cultural differences. But what we call "a bribe" they call sharing the wealth. We have advertisers, salespeople and lawyers to support, they have friends, family and government officials to support.

So these three I get,
Fear, Finance, Culture, what else could there be?
I am mystified as to why so many I call on just say NO!

Could anyone enlighten me? Suggest questions for my survey?

Then again, it could be my approach. If you feel up to it, and you are from Western Canada, allow me permission to call you and perhaps you could point out what I am doing wrong?
